The 2008 Food Fair Will Take Place From November 6th - 9th in Listowel
“CELEBRITY TREATS AT THE 2007 LISTOWEL FOOD FAIR”
The 2007 Listowel Food Fair got off to a flying start last Friday night at the Listowel Arms Hotel and was hosted and launched by Chairman of Listowel Food Fair Mr. Jimmy Deenihan T.D. An excited crowd of over 500 culinary enthusiasts watched the proceedings as the event got under way.Marketing Director of Bord Bia Ms. Therese Brophy presented the Feile Bia “2007 Kerry Restaurant of the Year" award to delighted winners, Mr. Armel Whyte & Ms. Helen Mullane of Allo’s Bar & Bistro of Listowel. The winners were presented with a plaque from the Listowel Food Fair and €1,000 worth of professional services from Caterassist. Sponsors Failte Ireland was also represented on the night by North Kerry Tourism officer Ms. Martina Barton.
After the launch there was a highly entertaining and insightful cookery demonstration by much loved Celebrity Chef Kevin Dundon of Dunbrody House, Co. Wexford. Kevin has received acclaim for his regular slot on the “Afternoon Show” and has also part of cooking show “Gorilla Gourmet”.
The presentation of “Sheila Broderick Memorial National Farmhouse Cheese Competition” 2007 winner was made by Ms. Eilish Broderick to delighted winner Ms. Siobhan Ni Ghearailt, from Co. Clare with the winning St. Tola Goats Cheese. This year’s competition was judged by international cheese guru by Juliet Harbutt, Founder of the British Cheese Awards.
Main events for this year’s Listowel Food Fair were the Farming Seminar, which took place last Thursday evening with special guest Minister for State Department of Agriculture, Fishers & Food, Mr. Trevor Sargent. The seminar was delivered by Mr. Andy Boland of Teagasc and Mr. Jack Nolan, Department of Agriculture. The subject of nitrate directives derogation was the main topic of the evening and a group of over 200 farmers were in attendance.
Other events included the “Mutton Pie Competition”. Mutton pies are part of listowel and Listowel races and were immortalized by John B in his short story of the same name. It was with great pleasure that Paul Taylor of McKennas (Sponsors of the event) presented the prize to Mrs Mary Keane wife of the late John B Keane. Bread making classes, Vegetarian Cookery Demonstrations, Farmers Markets, wine tastings, A Mussels and Guinness reception, Food Hall & Craft Markets, Children’s Workshops and Good Food Dining in Listowel Restaurants were part of an eventful weekend."
